Jeff Butch enlisted in the Marine Corps right out of high school and saw a lot of combat in Vietnam. When he returned home Jeff enrolled at Millersburg University with plans of becoming a teacher. He says it was difficult to talk about his experiences in the war.

“Vietnam vets. We didn’t talk about it because of the protests. You know we only talk to each other. We had a fraternity of Millersville called Chi Gamma Iota which was a veteran’s fraternity and most of the guys were Vietnam vets. We’d talk to each other about it but we never mentioned it to even other students you know about our history because a lot of them would ask us really goofy questions. How many kids did you kill? How many villages did you burn down? Did you take drugs? We didn’t want any part of that. We at college to get educated and we weren’t geared to talk about our war experience. That we had to deal with ourselves and with each other. ”

“We coulda won that war had it been fought the right way. But it wasn’t as far as we were concerned.”

“I would do it over again. It was the right decision. I did. Now there’s consequences that came with it but other than that I’d do it over again. I feel I’m on do my obligation to support the government and I am proud of that.”
