U.S. Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) – Synopsis:
Served as a military advisor to a Vietnamese combat unit on the DMZ in 1968 -69. Firebase in Laos Operation was overrun by a superior NVA force. Wounded and deaf, called fire from American units until evacuated under fire by my commander’s personal helicopter. Spent 9 months recovering at Valley Forge and now get care at the Lebanon VA hospital.
Decorated by my commander in Germany and given a photo of myself found in a pocket of a sniper when the base was recaptured 3 days later. Advisors had a price on their heads dead or alive as they were the only ones who could call in airstrikes.
Spent a total of 14 years in the service until the RIF (Reduction In Force) came after the war.
