My tipping point for the Vietnam War was when the kids were shot and mortally wounded at a demonstration on the campus of Kent State University in Ohio. I couldn’t justify the reckless determination of the current administration to continue to cram this unholy war down our gullet.
I lost a cousin, whom I am sure had just graduated from High School, was barely a man.
Half the boys in my neighborhood growing up came home in a pine box. And when all is said and done, what did we accomplish? A new pathway for Heroin addiction, veterans, who suffered in some cases, 10 years before they got any help for Agent Orange afflictions. And then to have McNamara say, maybe Vietnam was a mistake. At the end, there were 5 women to every 1 man in that age bracket that were born between 1945 and 1955. Decimated.
